Which are the benefits of organic cotton? Here shortly: in the cultivation of organic cotton no toxic chemicals are used:
1) the weeds are physically eliminated and controlled by hoeing, pest control is done naturally, through biological cultivation practices and beneficial insects.
2) The organic cultivation systems reintegrate and maintain soil fertility and promote a healthy balance between pests and natural predators. 100% organic cotton promotes healthy soil, which retains more water and nutrients and therefore requires less water.
3) Water savings are not insignificant: a good 1930 liters of water less for each ton of organic cotton produced. In the processing of traditional cotton in the textile industry, a large amount of chemicals are used.
4) The production of non-organic cotton uses heavy metals, chlorine and chemical dyes: the residues of these substances remain even after the washing of the finished products and, in the case of clothing, end up in contact with our skin and can cause problems for our health. Treatment with chemicals often causes a loss of fiber integrity: garments made with traditional cotton last less and because they wear out faster.
5) Organic cotton uses safer alternatives for our health: natural dyes, such as clay, or water-based and peroxide to whiten. The result is that fabrics made with organic cotton last longer.
