Organic cotton production in the textile industry: differences and advantages over conventional cotton

A large quantity of chemicals are used in the processing of traditional cotton in the textile industry. The production of non-organic cotton uses heavy metals, chlorine and chemical dyes: residues of these substances remain even after washing the finished products and, in the case of clothing, end up in contact with our skin and can cause problems for our health. Treatment with chemicals often causes a loss of fibre integrity: garments made from traditional cotton last less and wear out faster. Organic cotton uses alternatives that are safer for our health: natural dyes, such as clay, or water-based and peroxide to bleach. The result is that fabrics made from organic cotton last longer.
